Renewing Homes of Greater Augusta

Why We Exist

The mission of Renewing Homes of Greater Augusta (RHGA) is to accomplish, at no cost to a homeowner, critical home repairs or modifications for low-income elderly, disabled, and disadvantaged homeowners in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County.

What We Do

RHGA’s primary program is the Critical Home Repairs (CHR) program through which vital home repairs or modifications are completed for local homeowners in need. All project requirements must be deemed critical and address safety, warmth, dryness, and accessibility. The program enables provision of services to an average of 35 to 45 homeowners per year living in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County. RHGA works almost exclusively with volunteers and by doing so we are able to maximize the impact of our resources. RHGA purchases, or has donated, all materials for projects but utilizes volunteers to complete repairs. We estimate that our projects are, on average, completed at a third of commercial costs. For every dollar spent, three dollars of commercial repairs are completed. Project costs range from $500 to $2,500 and only include materials purchases. The commercial costs of these same projects could easily reach over $10,000 on our largest jobs. This costs-savings is passed directly to our client. Our critical home repairs program is a vital part of the affordable housing movement in the greater Augusta region.

Who We Serve

RHGA aims to assist local homeowners living in Staunton, Augusta County, or Waynesboro who live at or beneath 150% of the Federal Poverty Guideline for their home. These homeowners are often elderly or living with a disability.
Why Community Members Support Our Work
Without charitable contributions, our organization could not function and serve local residents who are greatly in need of critical home repairs. We rely on our community’s investment in our organization so that we may purchase materials, cover insurance, and pay staff. RHGA wisely utilizes volunteers to maximize the impact of dollars spent. For every $1 spent nearly $3 worth of commercial value is achieved. Your $5,000 gift can provide over $15,000 worth of savings to a local, low-income homeowner.
