Amount Requested: $2,500 for the 4th Annual PAC’n the Streets Festival
Mission: A nonprofit performing arts innovator and steward of two historic theatrical venues, the Staunton Performing Arts Center presents accessible arts, entertainment, cultural, civic, and educational experiences to patrons of all ages, abilities, and interests and enhances the quality-of-life and economic vitality of the region.
Constituents Served: Patrons of all ages, abilities, and interests. 2,000 community members of all ages attended the PAC’n the Streets Festival last year.
Program Overview: Back by popular demand after a third successful year, the Staunton Performing Arts Center’s nostalgic, family-friendly street fair, PAC ‘n the Streets, will return to downtown Staunton on September 10, 2016. Even though the day began with inclement weather, some 2,000 people attended the 2015 festival, a 33% increase over 2014. This year, in hopes of being even more diverse and family-friendly, PAC ‘n the Streets will expand to cover three blocks of Beverley Street.
Between Market and New Streets there will again be the two-level Main Stage featuring a different act every twenty minutes. Also in this block will be the Food Court, featuring ethnic and local specialty cuisine. Between the stage and the food vendor, there will be plenty of seating for watching performances as well as space for dining.
The second block, New to Augusta, will be a greatly expanded Art & Artisan Walk, with an excellent selection of creative work and fine crafts, each a unique offering, on display and available for purchase.
The third block, Augusta to Central, will feature the Young-At-Heart Stage, which this year will, like the Main Stage, be presenting performances continuously all day. The rest of the block will be the activities area hosted by Staunton Parks and Recreation. Joining Parks & Recreation will be other community organizations offering games, creative projects and fun learning experiences. There will also be a petting zoo.
Again in 2016, there will be strolling performers and favorite characters from page, stage and screen, and the Everyone’s-A-Winner Drawing offering prizes for children and adults.
Current Operating Budget: $72,000
