Mission: The mission of the Staunton Choral Society is to provide and promote choral music to the Staunton and Augusta County area.

Community Need: Every person, every Community Needs programs and opportunities to participate in and enjoy the arts.  The Staunton Choral Society fills the need of those who sing with opportunity to practice and grow in their art.  And through their performances, they provide the community with quality, free choral music for their enjoyment.  Great philosophers have understood that music is essential to human happiness:

Plato said, “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything,” and

Confucius said, “Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.”

At the Staunton Choral Society they say: “If singing is your passion, pursue that passion without hesitation, here with us in the Staunton Choral Society.”

Constituents Served: There are no geographic restrictions.  Anyone and everyone is invited to take part as a singer, musician, or member of the audience. The Staunton Choral Society serves the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro, and Augusta County.  They also reach Rockbridge, Rockingham, Nelson, Albemarle, Page, Shenandoah, Highland, and Bath counties.  Currently they have around 40 members who come from the cities of Staunton, Waynesboro, Harrisonburg, and Charlottesville, and the counties of Augusta, Rockingham, and Rockbridge with ages ranging from 20s through 80s.  Their audiences comes from all the areas.  In 2017, the Staunton Choral Society served an estimated 1,100 individuals of all ages.  The audience attend the following events and performances: Hymn Festival (150); Spring Concert (250); Serenity at Trinity (100); Christmas Concerts (500); and Caroling in the Park (100).

Primary Activities: The Staunton Choral Society provides a community chorus open to all who love to sing with opportunities to learn and improve vocal skills.  They also provide free concerts to the community at least twice a year and perform at community events, such as “Caroling in the Park”.
