Your Community Foundation established the COVID-19 Local Response Fund on March 16 with an initial charitable contribution of $100,000 and our pledge to contribute our fee for the administration of this fund. As a result, 100% of every contribution benefits local residents.
Since that time, our community’s desire to help has been nothing short of inspiring. As of June 4, over $350,000 had been contributed towards our relief efforts, and donations continue to arrive daily.
Contributing to the Local Response Fund is one of many ways in which everyone can make a difference during these very difficult times. Tax-deductible contributions to the Fund may be made online or by check made payable to the Community Foundation (P.O. Box 815, Staunton, VA 24402). Foundation staff are also available to assist with other forms of contributions.
Guiding the distribution of resources is a partnership consisting of the Community Foundation, United Way, Augusta Health, CAPSAW, officials from Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County, Shenandoah Valley Social Services, business leaders, and others. With their assistance we have already distributed over $332,500 in GRANTS to meet the most urgent needs of our neighbors.
Input from the nonprofit sector, residents, churches, and other organizations on the front line of the local response have played a critical role in identifying and understanding specific issues facing local residents.
We also recognize that our relief efforts will need to continue for the foreseeable future, and that this work will move through several additional phases.
