Celebrating 25 Years of Service & Philanthropy: Lewis Coiner Leadership Award
Nov 27, 2017

In honor of our 25th anniversary, the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge is seeking nominations for the next Lewis Coiner Leadership Award recipient.  Additionally, the Foundation will present a total of $10,000 to the recipient’s favorite local charitable organization(s).

This award was established in 2002 to recognize residents of the independent cities of Staunton and Waynesboro, and the counties of Augusta, Nelson, and Highland who have distinguished themselves through their exemplary history of altruism and community leadership, particularly through the advancement of the community’s charitable interests.

This award pays respect to its namesake and first recipient, Mr. Lewis Coiner, for his remarkable contributions to the establishment and early success of the Community Foundation.

Nominees for this award should have a history of generous and consistent philanthropic support, which may include gifts of financial resources, as well as time and talent, to one or more nonprofit organizations or charitable causes.  Through their philanthropy, they will have made a long-term impact on their community.

As Lewis Coiner once stated, “We are in this world to help other people and if we don’t do that, what good are we?”

In addition to Lewis Coiner, the only other recipient of this award was the late Barbara Hunter Grant for her unselfish stewardship of the community.

The nomination form is available at and will be accepted through January 31, 2018. The Foundation will announce the next recipient during a special event in 2018.
