This year, the Shenandoah Valley Kiwanis Club has awarded $5,000 to the Community Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy Council (YPC) Grant Program serving Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County. The YPC’s giving goals align strongly with SVKC’s mission to enrich the lives of our community through acts of service that impact our youth, our neighbors, and our environment. This allows the YPC members the opportunity to distribute additional funding to nonprofit organizations working with youth in our community.
This year, the YPC is comprised of 15 sophomores, juniors, and seniors from ten local public and private high schools in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County. Through a grant making structure, the students learn about community needs, particularly those related to youth.
Since the early stages of the pandemic, many community members were unable to provide basic needs for their families. As a result, it created stressors within households. The YPC believes that alleviating these stressors will have a positive impact and support children, youth, and families as a whole.
The Shenandoah Valley Kiwanis Club will open its grant application program in January 2022. The Community Foundation is proud to be the philanthropic partner for the Shenandoah Valley Kiwanis Club which dedicates its philanthropy to addressing the needs of children in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.
Thank you for providing services to our community!
