Mission: The mission of Community Child Care is to provide safe, affordable, quality child care to the children of Staunton and surrounding communities.

Community Need: Community Child Care is one of the few child care centers in the greater Staunton area that offers full-time preschool, before and after school, and summer care to all students regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Sliding fee scales are offered to families that work but have incomes that are inadequate to fully pay the cost of care. The exceptional educational programs help young children prepare for school in ways tailored to meet their individual needs. They specialize in taking students from where they are to where they need to be which results in a stronger shared community for all.

Constituents Served: Any child between the ages of 2 years to 11 years that live in the greater Staunton, Augusta, and Waynesboro area. The total number of students served by the center for 2017 was 97 of which 75% are at or below federal poverty guidelines.

Primary Activities: Community Child Care offers a sliding fee scale to at risk families. This allows the center to target and support families by providing protective factors such as quality care for their children. By partnering with Virginia Quality, the center is able to bring the professional development of teachers and administration above the basics of Virginia State Licensing. In addition, as part of this partnership, their curriculum is aligned with the Department of Educations Milestones for children.

Their main goal for the year is to find other grants and funding to support their sliding fee scale. They are going to have a small increase in the tuition during August 2018 and hopefully, secure other dependable funding in order to continue to offer this benefit to families in need.

Their greatest accomplishment this past year was purchasing the “new to us” bus. Their previous bus was old and required a great deal of maintenance and repair, so to purchase the “new” bus with the help of grants, savings, and donations was an important community effort.
