Augusta Cook Markley Scholarship

The Augusta Cook Markley Scholarship was established in 2018 by Augusta C. Markley in support of graduating seniors at Staunton High School in Staunton, Virginia.

Description

The Augusta Cook Markley Scholarship is to be awarded to graduating seniors of Staunton High School who have great potential and have demonstrated much personal and academic growth in order to overcome obstacles on their path to success.   This scholarship is for graduating seniors whose academic achievements, while admirable, may not garner for them traditional merit-based scholarships.  Additionally, this scholarship is for graduating seniors for whom financial aid could be the deciding factor for pursuing post-secondary education.

Eligibility

  • An eligible student must be a senior at Staunton High School.
  • An eligible student must demonstrate financial need.
  • An eligible student must have a track record of hard work and dedication to succeed in school and in life. Academic achievement for this scholarship is not necessarily measured by GPA.

  • An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year and plan to enroll at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the continental United States the following academic year.

2024 Award Amount

To be determined (2023 award was $3,000)

This scholarship is renewable for three additional years given the recipient continues to satisfy the scholarship criteria.
