Betty Coiner Burkart Memorial Scholarship

Betty Coiner Burkart was a Waynesboro native who attended Waynesboro High School. She married there and had two sons, Charles (Chip) and Michael Patton. She was the epitome of “A Southern Lady”.

Betty was a life-long committed Christian and an ardent champion of women’s and civil rights. She would have been happy and proud to have her memory perpetuated through this scholarship.  Her sons’ families and her husband, Ray Burkart, are honored to be able to establish this scholarship with the assistance of the estate of Betty’s mother, Agnes McClung Messimer, lifelong resident of Augusta County.
