The Community Scholarship for Excellence was established in 1998 to provide funds for college scholarships to outstanding seniors attending high schools both public and private in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County.
Description
The criteria for the Community Scholarship for Excellence will be based upon merit only. Merit will be based upon the individual’s scholastic achievement, extra-curricular activities, and community involvement and leadership during high school. This scholarship is extremely competitive and applicants should have a cumulative G.P.A. of 4.0 or higher.
Eligibility
- An eligible student must be a graduating senior from Virginia State-Approved schools (public and private) in Staunton, Augusta County, and Waynesboro.
- An eligible student must demonstrate leadership, scholastic achievement, and strong participation in school and community activities.
- An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year and plan to enroll at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the Continental United States the following academic year.
Selection Criteria Used by the Selection Committee
- Merit will be based on the following:
- Scholastic achievement/academics
- This scholarship is extremely competitive and applicants should have a cumulative G.P.A. of 4.0 or higher
- Extra-curricular activities, and or sports
- Community involvement
- Leadership roles in school
- Scholastic achievement/academics
- The candidate will be selected by a Community Foundation appointed scholarship selection committee for recommendation to the Community Foundation, in accordance with the Community Foundation’s Conflict of Interest Policy.
