James and Joyce A. McDonald Scholarship

The James and Joyce A. McDonald Scholarship, established at the Community Foundation in 2021, honors the memory of husband and wife of 49 years, James and Joyce McDonald. Joyce was a band director at Madison County High School and librarian at Augusta Military Academy where she was the first female instructor. She also taught for Augusta County Schools. Jim held teaching positions in Augusta and Page Counties, as well as several private schools. Both enjoyed giving back to the community and will do so through this fund for many years to come.

Eligibility

  • An eligible student must reside in Augusta County, with priority being given to students who are graduates of Fort Defiance High School.
  • An eligible student must be planning a career in music and/or agriculture.
    • Agricultural and Forestry Production (including Agronomy and Crop Science, Animal Science and Nutrition, Dairy Science, Equine Science, Farm and Ranch Management, Fishing and Fisheries Science, Forest Management, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Livestock Management, Nursery and Landscape Management, Plant Science, Poultry Science, Turf Management, General Ag Science, Wildlife Science, Ecotourism, Sustainable Agriculture); Agricultural Communication and Education; Agricultural Business and Economics; Agricultural Sales and Marketing; and Agricultural Engineers.
