Friends of the Augusta County Library

Why We Exist

Mission The Friends of the Augusta County Library advocate and raise funds to support the Augusta County Library. Vision: We envision a superior public library system with adequate resources and facilities to anticipate and respond to the changing needs of the Augusta County community. Values: • Literacy: We believe reading is a life-enriching experience that is also fundamental to the socioeconomic well-being of individuals and our community. • Access: We believe libraries break down barriers by providing free access to educational opportunities, information, and technologies for everyone. • Volunteerism: We believe in making a difference and seek to inspire others to join us.

What We Do

•We support literacy programs for children, including weekly storytimes, summer reading programs, STEAM programs, and Puppet Pandemonium. •We provide copiers, printers and fax machines for public use in all library locations. •We purchase materials for craft activities, lectures and exhibits for adult audiences. •We support training opportunities for staff including memberships to professional organizations, conference registrations, and guest trainers for staff day. •We maintain garden and reading spaces at all library locations. •We recognize and thank the Library’s dedicated staff by providing an annual luncheon on National Library Workers Day. •We recycle donations of books as well as items withdrawn from the Library’s collection through our Book Sale, providing public access to inexpensive books and generating income to benefit library activities.

Why Community Members Support Our Work
Our support of the Augusta County Library provides internet access, educational material, job application resources, reference resources, programs and learning experiences and more to both children and adults. Our contributions to the library work towards making sure everyone has equal opportunities and the resources necessary to succeed. For example, in FY2016, the library helped more than 132 individuals with resumes and job applications, and overall, there were 25,753 user sessions of public internet computers. There were 738 total library programs, and 18,109 children and teens attended their respective programs. Our most important goals are in regards to library patrons. We want the patrons of the Augusta County Library to have the best materials at their disposal, including books, DVDs, playaways, computers, classes, and more. Over the next fiscal year, we would like to expand our reach with new advertising options, updated technology, and new and continuing programs for all ages. With limited funds that are based on member dues and monetary donations, the Friends of the Augusta County Library is limited in our expenditure. Charitable contributions help us to fulfill our goals of serving and enhancing the community.
