The Richard and Edith Robbins Memorial Scholarship honors the lives and generosity of Richard Peter Robbins, Jr. and Edith Marie Schafer Robbins, both born in New Jersey in 1934 and married in Rochelle Park in 1954.
Mr. Robbins was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. Following his military service, he worked for Public Service Gas and Electric Company in New Jersey as a lineman until his retirement.
Mrs. Robbins was an elementary school teacher in New Jersey who devoted her career to education and inspired countless students over many years.
Richard and Edith shared a love of the outdoors, travel, fishing, and especially the mountains. In retirement, they moved to Augusta County to enjoy that lifestyle. Though they did not have children of their own, they consistently supported and encouraged others throughout their lives.
This scholarship reflects their shared commitment to service, education, and skilled trades, and is intended to support individuals preparing for careers that strengthen their communities.
