Mark Tinsley Scholarship
Description
This scholarship is designed to assist a high school or college level applicant interested in the culinary arts, hospitality management, or business administration and related degrees in that order of priority. Previous recipients must re-apply each year on a competitive basis and will be selected based on the pool of qualified applicants.
Eligibility
- An eligible applicant must reside in Staunton, Waynesboro, or Augusta County for a minimum of one year prior to the scholarship application due date. There is No age limitation.
- An eligible applicant must have plans to study 1) the culinary arts, 2) hospitality management, or 3) business administration or business related degrees in that order of priority.
- The applicant studying culinary arts is preferred. If one or more applicants express interest in business related degrees, applicants studying business administration or financial planning are preferred.
- An eligible applicant must be enrolled or plan to enroll at an accredited two-year or four-year institution (“for profit” educational institutions do not qualify). Preference will be given to a candidate attending college in Virginia.
Selection Criteria Used by the Selection Committee
- Academic Merit which includes:
- scholastic achievement/academics, extra-curricular activities and/or sports, community involvement, leadership roles, and demonstrated initiative
- May consider financial need, but not required
- The candidate will be selected by a Community Foundation appointed scholarship selection committee for recommendation to the Community Foundation, in accordance with the Community Foundation’s Conflict of Interest Policy.
