Two Hearts – One Mission is a purpose driven initiative to preserve the history, achievements, community leadership and legacy of William A. and Queen Elizabeth Miller, whose hearts forged a single mission to provide a safe haven, a home, for orphans. The goal of this initiative is to preserve the physical site of the location and home to the Millers and all that their efforts gave love and life to. The site, known as the Queen Miller Home, purchased in 1910, included a school, church, residence, farm and center for community life.
The Miller’s were the grandparents of Moonyene Jackson-Amis, Esq., who has undertaken this project to save the property and continue efforts to memorialize the history of this important Staunton, VA legacy. More than 300 children, from locations across Virginia, were welcomed and nurtured at the site. The site was officially closed as a home for children in 1950. Many persons, however, returned to the site as adults and with their children. The Millers were able to maintain the property after their much-deserved retirement. However, in 1955 the homeplace was lost in a tragic fire. Sadly, two children perished.
This funding effort will rescue the properties from accumulated taxes, create a trust and develop a lasting memorial on the property site, purchased by the Millers in 1910. We need your help to make it happen.
